Breaking out the Sewing Machine!

It has been ages since I've done any real sewing, but here I go! I am making a duvet and some pillow covers for this little couch that is in my studio. The fabric that is on it right now shows dirt too easily and I wanted something more exciting anyway. So off to Wal-Mart I went! I found some cool looking pillowcases and I brought them home, ripped out the seams, and refashioned them into pillow covers. I added buttons and loops so the cases can be washed (it is a CLAY studio, after all), and now all I have left is the large duvet for the main cushion on the sofa. I've had a blast sewing, which is surprising as I didn't remember enjoying it this much. So when my eyes started crossing from fatigue, I took a shower break and came back to the studio to work on clay. I am currently making a bird bath sculpture thingy to go at the end of our driveway that has our house numbers on it. I'm just getting started though and it already weighs 50 lbs! Uh oh! I'm going to have bribe some friends with a couple of beers and get them to help load it into the kiln, I guess. But anyway, the creative juices are flowing, and if I didn't have a little one to take care of, I'd probably stay up all night working!

Getting things in order

You know, it's odd, I'm not really a very organized person, but I love it when things are organized and neat. I've been working in the clay studio for the past couple of days cleaning and hanging shelves. I never really took the time when we moved in to really get settled in the studio. We had a 3 month old then, and she wasn't really into letting her mom get lots of time in the studio. Also my mom was really sick at that time, so working in the studio wasn't a priority in life. But I love getting things in order, and getting them just the way I want them. I've been doing clay for 10 years now, and just now I have my own real studio that I can set up the way I want it. Therefore, it is very important to me to get everything just right! That is MY space and I don't have to ask anyone if they like it or not. What a nice feeling! Last night, I was so pleased with how the space is coming along, I thought I might host a Girls Night in the studio - complete with wine and appetizers. I haven't done anything like that and I think everyone would have a great time making something. Well, maybe after I get a small refrigerator to keep the beer and wine cold! That's important, you know!
