Another Recipe - Turkey Burgers!

Good evening! If you haven't figured it out yet, I am into healthy eating for the most part. Sometimes, I'm a sucker for chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, or a creamy sauce on my pasta, but most of the time, I like to try to eat in a healthful manner. Especially now that I have a daughter and I want her to learn healthy habits. So while we were in San Francisco, my little one decided she didn't really like veggies. She only wanted bread and pasta, and fruit. This irked me beyond belief! I have very strong feelings about kids eating veggies (at least some!) and I was bound and determined to win this battle, like many mothers before me.

So when we returned to home, off to Barnes & Noble I went for cookbooks. After talking to the sales associate, I asked her to take me to the "Expecting Mother" section. A little history: When my daughter was just starting foods, I had made a few of the recipes in the "What to Expect" book and the kiddo found them to be palatable. So this is why I wanted to go back to that section. I ended up buying the "What to Eat When Expecting" even though I am NOT pregnant, just for the recipes. I know, I know, kinda weird, but hey, the recipes were interesting! So the first one that caught my eye was this Turkey or Chicken Burgers with shredded carrots and cheese in the mix. Now my munchkin won't eat carrots... but she ate these burgers! Of course, there was lots of ketchup involved, but oh well, that's okay. You can have your carrots with ketchup if that's what it takes! So for all you moms out there that struggle with this, give this recipe a try and let me know how it goes over in your household!! My apologies to any vegetarians out there... Oh, and last night, I tried the Broccoli Cheese Soup recipe out of that same cookbook, and don't hold your breath on that one - NOT my favorite..

So anyway, if you are feeling adventurous in your culinary ways, try this recipe, and let me know what you think! I have already shared this recipe with one friend and now another blogger/friend is asking about it, so this is why I shared it here. Enjoy!

Oh, and no studio time today. Hubby left for his trip today, and I have just felt a little "off" all day. But tomorrow should be a good studio day!
Hope everyone has a good Monday~

  1. I went throught the same thing with my two daughters. Anna would only eat green apples at a certain stage and Katie would only eat peanut butter sanwiches.:)

Have you also seen Jerry Seinfelds wife's cook book for children. I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called? A few of my friends use it with their children who have strong opinions about eating. ;-)

    Those chicken burgers saound delicious!

  2. I love the idea of shredded veg in the burgers. I shred zucchini in just about everything and slip it into the smalls' diet. Do you guys have lite ketchup? Heinz comes in a low-sugar variety here that we're loving. You don't feel so guilty when they drown their food in it...!! hugs from germany, tj

  3. Fortunately my daughter loved carrots as a baby and toddler. I always bought organic veggies because I think they just taste better. BUT - she won't eat zucchini, eggplant and mushrooms (she's 12 now!). However, I'm pretty happy how she turned out with her eating, she's pretty healthy eating-conscious, so stick to it! You're doing the right thing!

  4. Hey Michele, yes, I actually bought Jessica Seinfeld's cookbook, and I've had some success with it. So far, I've tried 4 recipes out of there, and liked 2 of the 4. The Donut Recipe in that book absolutely ROCKS!
TJ - shredded zucchini, huh?? I'll have to try that one. In fact, I think shredded veggies hidden in food is a great idea. Sometimes, I think it's a texture thing, you know?
And Carola, I also do the organic veg thing too - I just hate the thought of all those pesticides.... but I'm going to keep pushing her to eat her healthfully! Next summer we are planning a garden, so I'm going to get my daughter to help me with that. I think she will get so interested in how the food is grown...
    Thanks guys for the input!
    Hugs~
